Job Description

Overview

Internship for 10 weeks between May and August 2020

UnityPoint Health is building an industry leading healthcare analytics team by aligning resources with expertise in technology solutions, claims analysis, financial analysis, clinical operations, advanced data mining tools, and analytics techniques. This team supports the strategic objectives of UnityPoint Health and collaborates with customers across the care continuum to ensure the appropriate information is available to drive decision making and support business needs. Assists the Manager, Strategic Analytics in building industry leading analytics solutions for financial, operational, and clinical use cases and translates key insights to stakeholders to advance performance on quality, utilization, or other key drivers.

All internship assignments are different and based on business needs; however, interns will be placed into one of the following functional areas:

* Risk Analytics (Claims, Population Health, ACO)
* Financial Analytics

Responsibilities

* Support analytical projects: formulate methodology, establish data requirements, identify client deliverables, determine tasks and timing
* Develop analytical models and solutions for business and clinical leaders to drive outcomes improvement
* Apply domain knowledge of financial, operational, or clinical processes to data analyses and modeling
* Maintain a working knowledge of the data sources to accurately and efficiently report findings in a meaningful and understandable manner.
* Execute analyses and make the results accessible and relevant to a wide variety of business users
* Develop and refine analysis templates for problem diagnosis and opportunities assessment
* Collaborate effectively with other analytical team members
* Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
* Establish effective mechanisms of communication with staff, providers, and the organization's management team to foster an environment of openness, trust and team work
* Comply with UnityPoint Health data governance standards
* Completes special projects and management reports as assigned
* Balance team and individual responsibilities and put the success of the team above own interests

Qualifications

Education:

* Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or graduate (Master's, MBA) degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Mathematics, Economics, Analytics, Finance, or a related field
* Strong academic performance (minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA)
* Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered)

Experience:

* 0-2 years of experience in analytics or healthcare
* Strong interest to develop career in healthcare analytics
* School and/or work experience with PC based software programs and automated database management systems (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Microsoft SQL Server, Tableau)

Skills:

* Ability to synthesize complex data into user friendly visual presentations for use by business partners and leadership.
* Self-starter with the ability to manage and complete abstract assignments
* Ability to work as a team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships
* Possesses excellent writing and verbal communications skills and the ability to understand and communicate concepts and recommendations.
* Ability to understand and deal effectively with problems and opportunities, which arise, in a complex multiprocessing environment are crucial.

Preferred skills:

* Proven leadership skills
* Exceptionally demonstrated interpersonal skills
* Previous experience gathering requirements from the client/business and documenting
* Previous experience with process improvement, workflow, benchmarking and/or evaluation of business processes
* Strong history of quickly gaining credibility, patterning with business leaders and exhibiting executive presence
* Proven ability to articulate business strategies and formulate concise solutions to complex problems
* Excellent consultative, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
* Champion continuous change, consult with versatility, exhibit personal leadership and model a customer orientation
* Ability to effectively drive results in a dynamic environment with a high degree of organizational change, growth, and ambiguity
