United Bank is currently seeking talented and dynamic college students for our 2019 Future Business Leaders Internship Program. With over 50 branch and office locations in Connecticut and Massachusetts, United Bank is New England's premier state chartered community bank.Ideal candidates for the 2019 Future Business Leaders Internship Program will be current college students or recent graduates that have an interest in pursuing a career in Banking or the Financial Services Industry. The United Bank Internship Program will provide an opportunity for interns to work alongside leaders in the banking industry through hands-on learning, collaborative team projects, and the development of a Capstone Project presentation to our Senior Leaders.All United Bank 2019 Internship positions are paid, full-time roles. Interested and qualified candidates must be available from Monday May 20th, 2019 for our Future Business Leaders Orientation, through the conclusion of the 12 week program on Friday August 9th, 2019.A complete application is required in order to be considered.The deadline for accepting applications will be Monday November 12th, 2018 at 5pm.

United Bank is seeking a Full-Time Intern to support the Accounting Department throughout the summer of 2019 in the areas of accounts payable, fixed assets, leases, account reconciliations, month-end close and financial reporting (both internal and external).

While the primary focus is to provide support to the Accounting Department, the goal of the Internship Program is to develop and train the selected intern in a professional accounting environment to allow them to further succeed academically and develop the necessary skills to pursue a successful career in the finance industry.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

* Assist the Accounts Payable Analyst in the performance of processing invoices, ensuring they are coded to the proper branch, cost center and general ledger account number for the Company, the Bank and all subsidiaries.
* Assist in determining whether invoices should be accrued for at month and quarter end.
* Research and resolve issues that business lines have regarding the posting of expenses to their respective areas.
* Assist the Controller and Assistant Controller in closing the books at month-end. This assistance includes, but is not limited to the following:
* Develop journal entries for designated accounts.
* Research and analyze variances from prior month activity and to budget.
* Prepare daily downloads of the month-end income statements; and
* Prepare the month-end close package as well as present findings at the quarterly closing meeting.


* Assist the Financial Reporting Manager and SEC Analyst in the following :
* Develop the financial tables for the Quarterly Earnings Press Release.
* Proof the disclosures in the Press Release and ensure all numbers have proper documentation.
* Prepare designated Footnotes of the 10-Q (e.g. Goodwill, Wholesale Funding).
* Prepare designated sections of the MD&A of the 10-Q (e.g. non-interest income and non-interest expense).
* Prepare selected Call Report schedules.


* Assist in the preparation of the monthly account certification program in accordance with Company Policy.
* Prepare account reconciliations for select accounts.
* Assist the Staff Accountant maintaining the Bank's fixed asset system, BankTel.

OTHER FUNCTIONS of the POSITION:

All United Bank Interns will be responsible for completing a team capstone project throughout the course of the 12-14 week internship. Project details to be communicated at a Future Business Leaders Orientation at the kick-off of the Internship Program. At the conclusion of the Internship, teams will present their finalized project to an Executive Board.

All employees are subject to the requirements of the United Bank BSA Program. An employee's role with United Bank determines which parts of the program apply. However, all employees are responsible for reporting suspicious activity identified in the course of their work, and all employees are responsible for the timely completion of mandatory compliance training assigned, such as BSA and OFAC.

The above duties may not be all-inclusive. The incumbent may be asked or required to perform other work as time and abilities allow.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS of the POSITION:

Judgment: Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Accounting and in accordance and compliance with Bank employment policies and procedures as well as applicable governmental regulations.

Complexity: Work involves a variety of administrative and analytical functions including, but not limited to, reporting, assisting with account reconciliations, research and resolution of expense issues requiring alertness to compliance issues, as well as intelligent prioritizing of assignments.

Impact of Errors: Errors, both in terms of judgment and technical aspects of the position, may be detected in succeeding operations during the course of reconciling accounts, but may cause delay in tracing and correcting, and may result in inaccurate records and financial reporting which could be expensive to the Company.

Interpersonal Relationships: Work involves frequent contacts with a variety of people, including customers, employees, vendors, and members of management for the purpose of furnishing or obtaining factual information requiring courtesy, and friendliness.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or a related field.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

* Excellent presentation and communication skills.
* Team-oriented and able to accept and incorporate constructive feedback into work product.
* Articulate in reading and writing skills, ability to communicate clearly in English.
* Patience, understanding, and willingness to answer questions.
* Must exhibit a high level of professionalism and communicate clearly and effectively at all levels of the organization.
* Strong ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize workload.
* Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving abilities.
* Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office, especially Word, Excel and Outlook.

Physical Requirements: Ability to travel to various United Bank locations for meetings, training, or as deemed necessary due to business needs. Eyesight and hearing at a level that does not interfere with adequate communication and work assignments. Ability to move files and to spend considerable time on a computer
