Job Description

Uconn Health is looking to fill a student position in General Surgery. This is a temporary student position working 32-40 hours per week. Primary responsibilities to go through previous DNA variations data and carry out appropriate molecular genetics experiments and eventually, identify a number of Glaucoma-Causing genes from such a large number of generated data.

Experience & Training:

Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences and currently enrolled in graduate program.

Familiarity with fundamental Molecular Biology Techniques, such as measurements and preparation of various dilutions, pipetting of buffers, solutions, enzymes and DNA samples, use of standard Molecular Biology & Genetic tools, DNA extraction, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Gel Electrophoresis, design of DNA primers for PCR amplification, proper quality control, Automated DNA Sequencing and use of various molecular biology software for interpretation of results.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must be currently enrolled as a student in a formal accredited program. UPON HIRE MUST VERIFY STUDENT STATUS. (Letter from academic advisor on letterhead; or a course schedule listing current term of enrollment, name of educational institute and student's name; or a Student clearing house print out.)

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Human Genetics or Molecular Biology; first-hand experience in a molecular biology lab with genetic studies of human diseases and/or worked on gene mapping and cloning and/or expression studies of normal and abnormal protein products of such genes will be an ideal candidate for this position.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

SCHEDULE: 35-40 hour work week, Monday through Friday, based on the needs of the lab.

Hourly rate: $15.00 This is a temporary position with no benefits.
