Job Duties


The SQL Developer uses database programming to support analysis of administrative, clinical, financial, and demographic data. The SQL Developer will report to the team lead of the Data Integration team in OHIA (the Office of Health Informatics & Analytics), the centralized analytics group supporting UCLA Health"s three hospitals, physicians, the School of Medicine, and research, and other entities across the UCLA Health enterprise. The developer supplies data to researchers to support cutting-edge projects working in an interactive team environment. The developer also analyzes Epic Clarity and Cogito Data Warehouse data models, integrating data from numerous sources of clinical, financial, operational, and demographic data. The developer will work with team members, users, and others to define requirements, to develop data management processes, and to meet user needs using the enterprise data warehouse and its business intelligence platform.


Provide subject matter expertise in quality projects with multidisciplinary teams. Contribute to the discovery of requirements necessary for measure development.
Map the capture of important data elements in Epic applications to the Epic Clarity database, and further map that data into Epic Cogito, Ascender, and other proprietary or custom local data models.
Perform tasks associated with database programming, specification documentation, report development, and quality assurance.
Participate in best practices associated with a software development lifecycle. Contribute to the optimization of data management and performance tuning. Assist data management programmers with the packaging and automation of code into standing processes.

Job Qualifications

Strong SQL programming skills:
Strong experience on OLTP system
Sound knowledge around ETL using SSIS development.
Experience of relational data modeling, designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing OLTP databases used by end-user applications is a must. Microsoft SQL Server 2008R2 or higher (2012/2014 preferred)
Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) 2008R2 or higher (2012/2013 preferred)
Previous data warehousing/data integration experience required
Previous experience working in Healthcare
Oracle Experience is a plus.
Understanding of source and target data structures, ETL processes, and products.
Ability to comprehend relationships among field elements in the EpicCare Inpatient and Ambulatory electronic medical records, plus revenue cycle data in encounters, professional and institutional claims, and membership.
Understanding of statistical concepts.
Prior experience in reporting for healthcare is preferred.
BA/BS degree or higher OR equivalent experience required
