Job Duties
Under the general supervision of the Sr. CLS Supervisor and/or Manager, perform independently a wide variety of duties within the areas of Hematology, Coagulation and limited Microbiology, including training and education in the UCLA Santa Monica Clinical Lab. Duties include investigation/development of new/modified procedures and technical review and monitoring of existing procedures. Coordination of quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing activities. Coordination of compliance issues including staff competency assessment and identification of staff training needs. Provides technical expertise needed to establish compliance with any of the regulatory/accreditation agencies' requirements related to testing, training and education, competency evaluation, proficiency testing, validation, standard operating procedures, and performance improvement. Limited Microbiology testing includes Gram stains and rapid antigen tests. Perform bench work in the Clinical Lab as required. Act as technical consultant and resource for staff, Medical Enterprise and community.

Job Qualifications
The following are required: A current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License. Four years recent experience in Hematology and Coagulation, including abnormal manual differentials and manual body fluid analysis. Must have knowledge of how laboratory tests can support diagnosis and treatment of patients, and have the ability to interact with physicians, pharmacists and other healthcare personnel. The incumbent is required to have an academic background, practical experience, and teaching ability in Hematology and Coagulation, as well as leadership skills in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the work of others. The incumbent needs to anticipate and respond to customer service expectations of the Health System and the Clinical Laboratories. Must have current knowledge of CAP, JCAHO, California State, and CLIA guidelines and regulations for laboratories. Must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a team and maintain a positive humanistic attitude. Must be able to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal supervision.
