Job Duties
The Coverage Coder would provide procedural coding expertise and support that would be integrated in the clinical research finance activation process for new and amended clinical resarch study budgets. The Coverage Coder is expected to have strong working knowledge and familiarity with the researchConnect study activation process and medical coding requirements. The Coverage Coder is expected to demonstrate strong project management skills by completing assignments promptly, accurately and professionally. The Coverage Coder will support colleagues by providing coding guidance and feedback, as well as applying, reviewing and potentially updating procedural codes consistently and accurately for clinical research study budgets. In addition, the Coverage Coder will assist and support colleagues and researchConnect team members in performance of their underlying mission to the Health System, including but not limited to: financial study activation, budget development and research pricing support, Medicare Coverage Analysis, Local Coverage Determination processes, and liaison with other administrative research offices to streamline and triage research budgeting and pre-billing plans. The Coverage Coder is expected to build and maintain strong and positive collaborations with internal and external colleagues, including but not limited to: industry contracting, IRB, Clinical Research Information Systems (CRIS), CareConnect, CTSI, Hospital Billing, Faculty Practice Billing, Hospital Coding, the Office of Contracts and Grants Administration (OCGA) and the Office of Research Administration (ORA), etc.. The position requires strong organizationsl, time management, multi-tasking and customer focused service skills. The incumbant should have and maintain current credentials in procedural coding, and be intimately familiar with clinical research finance workflows.

Job Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in biological sciences or equivalent experience of at least 2 years in the clinical research finance environment(s). Current CPC Certification ICD-9 Training, Working Experience, and Certification ICD-10 Training, Working Experience, and Certification Strong working knowledge clinical research finance workflows, including but not limited to: study budgeting, coding, pricing, fund accounts, and familiarity with clinical research billing. Strong Working Knowledge of medical terminology. Experience working with faculty, administrators, and/or staff in an academic medical center, health care or university environment. Familiarity and working knowledge of EPIC electronic medical records system as it relates to clinical research finance. Familiarity with medical records and medical charting. Familiarity with industry contracting or the ability to learn and grasp basic clinical trials contracting concepts. Proven ability to communicate positively and effectively, and participate multidisciplinary discussions regarding the health sciences campus research process and related details to a wide audience (scientists, physicians, nurses, staff, sponsors, and the general public.) Ability to design and manage efficient work processes, set and meet expected turnaround time goals on an ongoing basis and monitor, analyze, and improve processes on an ongoing basis, and work in a time-sensitive environment. Ability to be flexible and adapt within an ever-changing, dynamic, service-oriented environment and operate effectively within a team.
