Job Description

Job Duties
Under the general direction of the Center Director, the MRI tech will serve as the primary staff support for the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience (CCN) MRI scanning laboratory, assisting in practical aspects of scanning, managing day-to-day operations of the MRI lab, assisting in lab management and technical development, and implementing scanner quality assurance and image analysis procedures. 30% - Assist Investigators in Practical Aspects of Scanning: Ensure that appropriate stimulus and response apparatus are available and operational; Assist in design and debugging of protocols, including scanner operations and stimulus response programs; Facilitate data collection, helping with scanner operation, and with data management, including file transfers, organization, and archiving; Assist in subject preparation and in obtaining appropriate consent; Act as a first point of contact for investigator questions and technical support; Develop documentation and training materials; Manage user training and certification. 30% - Manage Day-to-Day Operations of the MRI Lab: Keep lab supplied with all consumables and supplies; Assist in maintenance of scheduling system and assurance of user bookkeeping; Communicate with users about scanner availability, scheduling, and maintenance; Provide user training for scanner operation; Act as primary safety officer during regular scanning hours, including training of users in safe lab practices and ensuring that all safety equipment is maintained and available; Maintain logs of scanner use and subject records as needed; Act as first point of contact for questions concerning scheduling, training, and safety; Ensure that data files are backed up, organized, and maintained on the scanner. 30% - Assist in Lab Management and Technical Development: Consult on development of lab operational policies; Report changing lab needs to Center Director and Co- Directors; Advise and consult on the acquisition of new equipment; Assist Technical Directors in developing and testing new technical applications, including pulse sequences and coils. 10% - Scanner Quality Assurance and Image Analysis: Assist in maintenance scheduling and in vendor communications for service; Conduct regular scans using phantom quality assurance (QA) protocol; Analyze phantom QA data per prescribed analysis tools; Generate graphs and reports on scanner QA for supervisors; Assist in communicating with vendors about equipment maintenance.

Job Qualifications
BA or BS degree preferred Prior experience in scanning and image analysis. Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, or procedures to: define the problem or objective; identify relevant concerns or factors; identify patterns, tendencies and relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; and recognize alternatives and their implications; Skill in establishing priorities which accurately reflect relative importance of job duties; Skill in working as part of a team; collaborating with colleagues; Skill in coordinating various actions by determining the time and sequence of events to be taken in accord with standard policies practice; Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are: changes in workload; changes in assignments; pressures of deadlines; competing requirements; and heavy workload; Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction; Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to comprehend technical and procedure manuals records written in standard English; Ability to work and practice professional relationships with medical personnel, research subjects, patients and families; Computer skills including word processing, email systems, file transfer, spreadsheets, data entry, data base maintenance, including the ability to enter data and maintain study records; Working knowledge of Matlab, SPM, FSL, Unix, HTML, Javascript; Working knowledge of Siemens MRI system and user interfaces; advanced training will be provided.
