Job Description

Job Duties
The SRA I will work in the UIC Immune Assessment Core under the general supervision of the Director and the direct supervision of a Staff Research Associate II (SRA II). He/she will independently perform in vitro cellular and molecular experiments and work with whole blood, primary cells transformed and cell lines. Duties will include performance of immunoassays (both ELISA and multiplex Luminex), multi-color (up to 14) flow cytometry (both surface and intracellular staining), short and long term cell culture, separation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells and magnetic purification of lymphocyte subsets, DNA and RNA isolations and RT-PCR. The successful SRA will also perform data analysis under the supervision of a senior SRA and/or the Core Director and prepare assay reports. The SRA I will work along with other laboratory personnel in pre-and post-analytical activities, including accessing and processing of primary specimens, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, ordering laboratory supplies and troubleshooting specimens/test problems. Other duties may include: media/reagent/product preparation, monitoring inventories of media and reagents, quality control/quality assurance support, assist in the development of new assays and in drafting standard operating procedures, ensuring appropriate safety precautions are followed, and data entry and retrieval.

Job Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline strongly perferred. Numeracy and ability to independently calculate dilutions for buffers and reagents are required. A Master's degree in a scientific discipline highly desired. Knowledge of sterile tissue culture techniques, ability to operate BD Diva equipped flow cytometers and ELISA readers/Luminex instruments are highly desired. The successful candidate will be able to work both in groups and independently, handle large volumes of samples, and follow data storage practices that ensure data integrity. Organizational skills, willingness to learn and flexibility will be instrumental for success.
