Job Description

Job Duties
Reporting to the Director, Outpatient Oncology Services and the Medical Director of Clinical Research and BMT Services, the Research Oncology NP is responsible for the clinical care activities in the inpatient and outpatient areas and serves as clinical consultant in the community practices. Responsibilities include development and implementation of care guidelines/disease management systems and strategies, and the provision of ambulatory and inpatient nursing care including all clinical and educational activities provided by both licensed and unlicensed personnel. Collaborates with the Director of Outpatient Oncology Services and Unit Directors to develop Standards for patient care, assessing interventions and improving care. The ONP will utilize the role of practitioner, educator, consultant, researcher, and leadership to advance the objectives of the Oncology Services. With the Administrative Director develop, recommend, and implement a cost effective/efficient patient care delivery team. Evaluation will continue on ongoing basis with modification to plan as necessary.

Job Qualifications
Current California NP licensure. Master's Degree in Nursing required. CPR, BLS and National Certification. Ability to participate in total patient care in the clinical setting providing for the humanistic care of terminally ill patients and their families. In depth knowledge of and demonstrated expertise in current medical and surgical oncology concepts and practices. Demonstrated leadership ability to bring enthusiasm and dedication to the clinic and the position of Nurse Manager. Ability to creatively integrate the competing demands of a multidisciplinary setting into a harmonious and productive working environment. Demonstrated ability to identify relevant concerns, formulate logical and objective conclusions, recognize alternatives and their implications, and implement suitable plans. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all members of the health care team, collaborating with colleagues to facilitate a team-work approach. Ability to select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff, skill in providing the consistent support necessary in a high stress working environment. Skill in written communication sufficient to draft and edit correspondence, articles and manuals. Skill in verbal communication sufficient to undertake public speaking. Working knowledge of supplies and equipment needed in emergency situations and the ability to function effectively in a crisis situation. Ability to coordinate workload to optimize efficiency and quality patient care. Ability to serve as a role model in fostering customer satisfaction and team spirit among a diverse staff. Ability to analyze financial data, develop budget, and manage resources.
