Job Description

Job Duties
Under the general guidance of the Access Manager, the Per Diem Access rep pre-registers, pre-admits, and admits patients by telephone and/or in person. Major duties include: collection of accurate demographic information, review and interpretation of insurance benefits, obtaining prior authorizations, cash collections, interaction with public assistance programs (i.e., Medi-Cal, CCS) implementation of Medicare requirements, interaction with physicians/office personnel as well as other hospital personnel (i.e., SDA,OPSU, nursing units), and referral of appropriate cases to other internal and external sources to assist patients with discharge/post-hospital care. Interact with hospital departments such as Utilization Review and Patient Business Services to ensure correct and timely reimbursement.

Job Qualifications
Interpersonal skills to interact with the public in a high volume contact setting, utilizing perceptive listening skills to identify the concerns and take appropriate actions regarding patients presenting with a wide range of human behavior including fear, hostility, non-cooperation and frustration. Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information to individuals at various organization levels. Skill in employing independent decision-making techniques while performing various job duties. Basic knowledge of P.C. operations. Skill in writing concise, grammatically correct reports/correspondence and folder notes. Skill in organizing material and information in a systematic manner to maximize efficiency and minimize duplication of efforts. Skill in adapting to and implementing frequently changing registration procedures. Knowledge of Hospital Admissions and Registration procedures preferred. Ability to work with frequent interruptions. Ability to attend to many details within a short span of time. Ability to perform basic arithmetic computation to determine required deposits, maintain statistics and perform cashiering functions. Ability to work flexible schedules during staffing crisis situations such as sick leave, vacations, and emergencies. Ability to work with minimal supervision and to complete assignments in a timely manner. Demonstrated ability to adhere to policies and procedures. Must have overall satisfactory or better performance eval. General knowledge of medical terminology is required. Working knowledge of eligibility and working provisions of third-party sponsors. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Must be available for weekends and holiday coverage.
