Job Description

Job Duties
Reports to Nursing Manager of PICU, Dept. of Nursing. Consultation and supervision is provided to the PICU NP by the attending physician and/or designee during the patient care management component of the role. The NP directs the health care management of the PICU patients and provides emergency care. Also functions independently with other health care team members and departments to provide optimum care to his/her patients. The NP shall provide supervision of training nurse practitioners, students, consults with other health team members caring for PICU service patients at their request and shall participate in research. Advises family, initiates referrals based on family needs. Provides formal and informal in-service education for staff and conducts clinic patient assessments and manages visit along with providing proper documentation. The NP conducts QA review of selected aspects of the PICU service.

Job Qualifications
Successful completion of a Master's Degree in nurse practitioner program. A registered professional nurse with clinical expertise in PICU Nursing who has completed a formal educational program, which includes supervised clinical experience in the management of PICU patients and their families. NP I less than 6 months of NP experience, NP II 6months or greater of NP experience
