Job Description

Job Duties
Under the direction of the CRU manager and Principal Investigator incumbent will, collect pertinent information of research activities and participate in total patient care in the ambulatory setting, recognizing normal and abnormal symptoms and life threatening emergencies. Ensure that protocol procedures have been completed accurately, safely, and in a timely manner. Ability to communicate with other medical center personnel. Act as a study coordinator and assisting with patient care.

Job Qualifications
Knowledge of normal and abnormal symptomatology and life threatening medical problems. Current and valid CPR certification with ability to administer CPR. Venipuncture certification, adhering to all OSHA PPE safety requirements. Ability to obtain accurate vital signs and drug refills. Ability to assist in medical emergencies and office procedures. Knowledge of medical terminology. Skill to accurately perform a 12-lead EKG. Knowledge of all safety requirements when handling Biohazardous specimens or contaminated instruments. Knowledge of MSDS and emergency treatments. A medical assistant diploma/certificate from a secondary, post-secondary, or adult education program in a public school authorized by the Dept. of Education, in a community college program provided for in the Education Code, or a post-secondary institution accredited or approved by the Bureau of Post-secondary and Vocational Education in the Dept. of Consumer Affairs. Ability to push, pull or carry 30 lbs. or more. Knowledge of subject recruitment, participant contact, consent, data collections. Strong interpersonal/communication skills to interact effectively with physicians, nurses, allied health personnel, patients and their families, regulatory agencies and study sponsors, both verbally and via written reports and memos. Ability to operate computer to include word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, data base maintenance (Excel, MS Word, etc.) Ability to collect pertinent information from study participants through interviews, administration of surveys and questionnaires. Ability to work independently follows instructions, and work cooperatively with other staff members. Ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, participants and public. Ability to maintain confidentiality of data and patient information. Ability to work efficiently and complete task with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to shift priorities and adapt to changes. Working knowledge of patient related policies and procedures, as well as understanding the UCLA system.
