Job Description

Job Duties
Under general supervision of staff R.N. and L.V.N., assist clinical staff of primary care clinic in normal aspects of delivery of health care to clinic population. This includes interviewing patients, taking vital signs, recording services in patient charts, as well as in-clinic procedures, e.g., tympanometry and audiometry. Also screening tests such as UA and pregnancy tests. Maintaining stock of clinical supplies, assist in autoclaving, and assist with volunteer orientation. Includes pregnancy counseling and administering nebulizer treatments as well as rooming patients for providers. Translate Spanish/English for providers as needed. Interview patient prior to visit to determine and appropriately record reason for visit. Take vital signs of patients, such as weight, height, pulse, blood pressures, etc. Record vital signs and patient's chief complaints. Administer immunizations to adult and pediatric patients. Perform in-clinic procedures, i.e., EKG, tympanometry and audiometry, visual acuity, ear lavage, TB skin tests. Administer medications safely under clinic guidelines and physician order. Perform pregnancy screening and counsel pregnant patients about their choice options in accordance with Family Pact, state law and clinic guidelines. Perform lab-screening tests such as UA , pregnancy test, Hemoglobin, blood sugar. Record results of lab screening tests. Observe all safety guidelines. Administer nebulizer treatments and perform pulse oximetry and spirometry. Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent situations, e.g., low glucose levels. Provide Family Planning Counseling in accordance to Family Pact and clinic guidelines. Stock with supplies and maintain in an organized manner clinical areas. Assist in autoclaving when assigned. Maintain clinic equipment clean and functional according to clinic guidelines. Primary responsibility for maintenance of assigned area and task. Follow safety procedures and protocols. Assist with volunteer training sessions. Assist medical providers with translation. Other Duties as assigned within Venice Family Clinic.

Job Qualifications
Must have current and valid proof of completed Medical Assistance training. Ability to take vital signs such as weight, height, blood pressure and pulse. Ability to float to other facilities as needed for coverage. Ability to perform tympanometry and audiometry. Ability to perform lab-screening tests such as UA and pregnancy. Working knowledge of general medical and laboratory procedures. Working knowledge of medical terminology to record medical complaints in patient's charts. Skill in writing concise and logical sentences to record pertinent information in patient's charts. Ability to speak on a one-to-one basis using concise and appropriate vocabulary to obtain information and explain procedures to patients. Ability to understand and carefully transmit spoken and written instructions. English/Spanish oral skills to communicate information. Skill in interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds. Skill in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Experience working with pediatric patients. Experience working with homeless and/or/mentally ill clients. Experience in family practice range of patient care. Ability to comply with state law in discussing pregnancy options with clients.
