Job Description

Job Duties
Under the direction of the Histology manager, the Histotechnologist will work on a rotation basis to process, embed, and cut all sorts of tissue with excellent quality. Particularly, cutting thin sections of the Kidney, GI, Skin, eye, and Bone Marrow biopsies. The Histotechnologist will cut whole mount prostate, whole human and mouse eyes. Performing H&E staining and a variety of special stains manually and from an automated stainer such as Ventana will also be assigned. The Histotechnologist will enter data into PowerPath and Beaker systems as well as keep accurate and detailed records of the quality control on a daily basis. They will interact with residents, attendings, and grossing personnel to solve any problems and collaborate as needed. Other duties related to histology may be assigned by the supervisor.

Job Qualifications
A working knowledge of basic chemistry, biology, and anatomy with a minimum of 1 year experience in histology is required. HT or HTL ASCP board certified preferred. Skill in embedding, sectioning, and staining a variety of tissues with correct orientation both manually and by automation. The position requires working certain weekends, holidays and on-call shifts as needed by the department. Ability to maintain the quality control, confidentiality, appropriate safety procedures and a willingness to collaborate with a diverse team of individuals.
