Job Description

Job Duties
This position is for a laboratory assistant who will work in the microbiome laboratory of Dr. Jacobs. The main responsibilities are to perform high throughput microbial sample processing for DNA/RNA sequencing, maintain the lab's biobank of microbial samples, and assist in lab maintenance. The position will involve interaction with a large number of collaborators as the lab has recently established a Microbiome Core within the UCLA Microbiome Center.

Job Qualifications
Educational background in Biological Sciences, BA or equivalent. Ability to use a personal computer and basic computer applications. Ability to work nights and weekends as needed. Ability to organize and present results in an appropriate format. Ability to maintain complete and accurate records. Able to read and understand scientific protocols. Good oral and written communication skills in English. Ability to work independently after training. Ability to work in an aseptic environment. Ability to pay close attention to detail. Ability to reliably pipette hundreds of samples with no errors. Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work schedule. Skill in working with DNA and RNA, including extraction and PCR.
