Job Duties
Under the general direction of the supervisor, the Patient Access Financial Specialist III performs all admissions functions from pre-clearance/pre-admission through discharge, including in-house financial account management. Responsible for collecting accurate demographic and financial data, performing credit assessment, establishing financial arrangements, referral of appropriate cases to outside agencies for financial assistance. Interacts closely with internal departments and outside agencies to ensure correct and timely

Job Qualifications
Working knowledge of health care utilization review agency requirements and the authorization process. Working knowledge of eligibility and working provisions of third party payers including state and federal programs. Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Demonstrated hospital business office collections and/or financial counseling and admitting office experience. Skill in analyzing a variety of factors: credit histories, income tax records, property assessment, DMV clarification. Skill in identifying complex and unique financial problems relative to hospitalized patients. Ability to interact effectively with a variety of behaviors including fear, hostility, and non-cooperation, ensuring that individuals clearly understand their rights and options. Ability to work in high pressure/fast pace work environment. Demonstrated ability to adhere to policies and procedures. Must have overall satisfactory or better performance eval. Basic mathematical skill (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages) sufficient to calculate third-party sponsors and patient liabilities using a 10 key calculator/adding machine. Working knowledge of hospital financial guarantors. Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred. Must be available for rotating weekends and holiday coverage.
