Job Duties
Under the general direction of the ANIV, Assistant Director, Nursing & Operations, and the MSO I, OR Support the Hospital Laboratory Tech III (HLT) functions as an equipment manager/specialist. The HLT is responsible for the periodic performance checks, maintenance, and repairs of departmental anesthesia machines and OR equipment. The HLT manages the capital inventory for the Operating Room. The HLT performs other duties associated with the Department of OR Services. The incumbent is responsible for managing all equipment but not limited to setting up other OR equipment and performing clerical and coordinating duties as assigned by the RN Charge Nurse. The incumbent will perform job duties following department protocols and manufacturer's recommendations in operating equipment; adhere to established procedures based on clinical staff requests in setting up necessary equipment. Must consult with physicians and charge nurse regarding allocation of equipment. The incumbent will make independent decisions, as appropriate. The incumbent is responsible for coordination of repairs as needed on all anesthesia and OR equipment. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring all equipment meets hospital, clinical engineering and patient safety requirements.

Job Qualifications
1. Knowledge of manufacturer and a competency sign off from vendor(s) in repair and maintenance of anesthesia machines and OR equipment.2. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction or supervision.3. Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with faculty and co-workers.4. Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly using simple English sentences to obtain or provide information.5. Ability to read and write proper English.6. Skill in completing basic forms for interdepartmental information.7. Knowledge of cleaning, sterilization and disinfection of anesthesia materials and OR equipment.8. Ability to use cleaning agents to clean, disinfect or sterilize equipment.9. Working knowledge of medical center policies and procedures to be used while handling contaminated materials and equipment.10. Physical ability to lift, push or pull carts and equipment carefully and safely.11. Ability to be mobile for the entire work shift, if necessary.12. Ability to take inventory accurately.13. Ability to maintain inventory of supplies and equipment so that there is no interruption of services.14. Working knowledge of operating room sanitation.15. Working knowledge of infection control policies.16. Ability to troubleshoot various types of equipment and perform minor repairs as needed. 17. Ability to communicate over the phone with service representatives for troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.18. Ability to read and interpret operational and service manuals and to follow maintenance and troubleshooting guidelines.19. Ability to assemble and work with small components for repairs.20. Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect relative importance of job responsibilities.21. Skill in completing assigned workload within established time frame.22. Knowledge of function and use of anesthesia machines, anesthesia equipment and all other OR equipment.23. Skill in using electronic instrumentation such as oscilloscope, digital voltmeter, safety analyzer. 24. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments. 25. Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills required26. Skill in creating working tools as needed.27. Ability to coordinate repair/maintenance schedules on equipment28. Ability to keep accurate inventory/information on OR equipment29. Ability to orientate/train staff on OR equipment set up/care/maintenance.
