Job Description

Job Duties
The Biller is responsible for accurately billing inpatient and outpatient claims to Medicare following all mandated CMS billing guidelines. He/she is responsible for ensuring Timely Filing guidelines are met. Must have the skill set to work Rejected claims (T Status) to maximize cash inflow. The Biller must have the ability to perform all required duties within the patient accounting systems. Skilled in the usage of all Microsoft applications and other programs as defined by the Patient Business Services Management Staff. EPIC/Electronic Health Record is preferred.

Job Qualifications
Extensive collections experience, with emphasis on Managed Care and PPO Contracted payers. With a background in completing the appeals process when necessary. The follow-up collector must have the ability to perform all needed duties in the patient accounting systems. Knowledge of collection techniques and collection laws (i.e. AB1455, CCR, Knox-Keene Act, etc.) along with good communication skills so as to project a professional image for the Department and the Medical Enterprise. Extensive knowledge of governmental, commercial and contract payer processing timeframes, form requirements and inquiry requirements so as to expedite payment. General knowledge of billing and reimbursement issues in order to clearly address patient or payer questions; Skill in reading documents in standard English so as to relate pertinent information to the payers, the patients and Hospital Management. Skill in writing grammatically correct sentences in order to adequately document patient files. Skill in speaking with persons of various social, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Ability to use ten key calculator. Skill in using various computer programs (i.e. Excel, Word, Access PowerPoint); have telephone etiquette as well as Interpersonal skills including the ability to interact diplomatically, but assertively with the public either on the telephone or in person. Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility. Skill in performing repetitive work in a safe manner and according to set procedures, sequence and productivity requirements. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction. Skill in following standard office policies and applying good judgment. Skill in typing with speed and accuracy using a typewriter and/or computer keyboard. The ability to work at a PC, performing repetitious work, in a sedentary environment, for extended periods of time in a safe manner.
