Job Description

Job Duties
Incumbent will perform a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures related to the specific area of laboratory research. Assists in multitude of general laboratory activities which include maintenance of reagents and stocking of supplies; keeping accurate and detailed records of experiments and results; operating specialized laboratory equipment and machinery; and observing safety standards and procedures. Incumbent will perform routine and specialized cellular, microbiological and molecular biology procedures including, but not limited to Western, Southern blot, PCR, quantitative PCR, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, and staining. Incumbent will also be handling small laboratory animals.

Job Qualifications
Knowledge of basic genetics, molecular biology and biochemical principles. Ability to use basic laboratory equipment, including centrifuge, pH meter, PCR, etc. Demonstrated ability to calculate concentrations of solutions as necessary. Ability to carefully handle small animals according to ARC guidelines. Familiarity with techniques including Western, Southern blot, PCR, quantitative PCR, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, cell culture, Immunohistochemistry, and staining. Ability to create and maintain records accurately and to organize raw data into a comprehensible form. Ability to maintain laboratory readiness for future experiments. Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows and students to to effectively communitsate experimal results. BS in Biological Sciences or related field and familiarity with virological techniques is preferred.
