Job Description

Job Duties
The Cardiac Clinical Nurse V is a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) with educational preparation at a minimum of a Master's degree in Nursing that includes the five components of the Clinical Nurse Specialist role (practitioner, educator, administrator/manager, consultant and researcher). In addition, the CNS is certified by the California Board of Registered Nursing to practice as a CNS. The CNS demonstrates a high degree of professional competence in a specialized field of nursing and utilizes advanced theoretical and empirical knowledge and a scientific approach to problem solving. The CNS establishes standards for patient care and evaluates interventions to improve care for patients with cardiac conditions. Emphasis on the role components is dependent upon the patient population and the clinical and administrative functions/needs of the unit: Cardiothoracic ICU/ Coronary Care Unit and Coronary Observation Unit, Department of Nursing and UCLA Healthcare System

Job Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Current licensure as a Registered Nursing in the State of California. Master's Degree prepared in Nursing with CNS specialty required. 3-5 years of recent clinical experience in area of specialization. Must be certified by the California Board of Registered Nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist 3 years or greater of Cardiothoracic ICU and or Coronary Care Unit experience as an RN or CNS required. Cardiomyopathy experience, Heart Transplant and Heart Assist Device experience strongly preferred.
