Job Description

Job Duties
The UCLA Center for Behavioral & Addiction Medicine (CBAM) advances the prevention and treatment of chronic illnesses, especially in communities with health disparities. Our research efforts include clinical trials of anti-addiction medications and HIV prevention interventions. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will be responsible for clinical duties that include, but are not limited to: completing informed consent, obtaining medical and psychiatric histories, performing physical exams, interpretation of lab tests and EKGs in collaboration with study physicians, ordering and dispensing of study medication, monitoring and assessment of adherence and adverse events, and providing patients with test results and referrals. The NP may also share after-hours and weekend telephone call duties on a rotating basis with the Physician. Administrative duties will include maintaining medication accountability records and management of clinical quality assurance procedures, administration of study measures and related data entry. The NP will work closely with the Project Director and Physician to ensure that study activities are carried out according to study-specific protocols and operating procedures. The NP will participate in quality assurance reviews and will attend regular, internal study meetings, as well at network-led meetings and trainings.

Job Qualifications
Required: Graduated from an accredited MSN program with a NP specialty. CA RN and NP license required. Experience with clinical trials, clinical research or in the related field. Willing and able to maintain strict confidentiality. Skilled in keeping accurate and timely records. Ability to problem-solve and manage multiple, competing demands. Able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds. Able to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing with patients, staff and management. Able to question patients about sensitive behavioral issues including sexual behavior, drug use and other high-risk behaviors. Skill in using basic clinical and laboratory equipment. Preferred: Experience working with substance using populations highly preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
