Job Description

Job Duties
We are seeking a laboratory assistant with a Bachelor of Sciences or equivalent in Cell and Molecular Biology, Microbiology or General Biology with relevant coursework to work in an innovative an exciting laboratory focused on research in pediatric infectious diseases. The laboratory focuses on pediatric HIV-1, mother-to-child transmission of HIV-1 and the microbiome as it relates to immune development, susceptibility to diseases and response to treatment and vaccination. Prior laboratory work experience is highly preferable. Job Duties
include: * Maintaining a clear and organized working environment * Adherence to established safety protocols * Preparing and cleaning experimental work area * Preparing buffers, reagents, and stock solutions * Preparing, labeling and organization of supplies for experimental procedures * Record keeping of ongoing experiments * Data analysis and presentation * Carry out experiments following established protocols * Assist in the organization, location and storage of specimen aliquots * Assist with routine quality control/assurance for reagent testing, safety equipment checks and specimen freezer maintenance Keeping a detailed record of all experimental procedures with timetables and results and generate protocol updates * Providing a Data summary and experimental details to PI for manuscript preparation

Job Qualifications
Required: A sound background in molecular and cell biology Knowledge base should include a working understanding of basic molecular biology techniques including:nucleic acid extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid quantitation, qPCR, aseptic technique, rtPCR, cloning, pseudotypes, plasmid preparation, transfections and maintaining viral stocks. Basic laboratory skills including organization, pipetting and nucleic acid extraction, working with biological samples. Demonstrate behaviors in concert with UCLA mission, values, policies, and procedures. Ability to accurately interpret and enter data into the computer system. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and internet skills. Very well organized and highly dependable. Preferred: B.S. degree in Molecular Biology or Microbiology
