Job Duties
We study mechanisms by which the autonomic nervous system initiate and maintain arrhythmias. We are particularly interested in the role of the cardiac nervous system in heart disease. The individual hired for this position will be expected to surgically isolate tissues of interest from whole animal, perform microelectrode recordings from intact preparations of cardiac neurons, and complete immunohistochemical labeling of isolated tissue. The individual will also be involved in analysis of data obtained from intracellular microelectrode recordings, will contribute to general laboratory maintenance (ordering supplies, preparing reagents, maintaining equipment), and will present analyzed data to our neurocardiology research group in a journal club format.

Job Qualifications
perience with patch clamp or intracellular microelectrode recording. Knowledge of immunostaining or immunofluorescence. Knowledge of tissue preparation and specimen handling. Skills in preparing buffers, solutions and reagents. Skills in animal handling and surgical procedures. Skill in fine dissection of isolated tissues. Able to perform technical procedures in a timely and accurate manner. Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records. BS degree in biochemistry, physiology, biology or equivalent. Ability to work on routine assignments with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to work well with others. Skills in basic computer use, Microsoft excel, office, powerpoint.
