Job Description

The Full Stack Software Engineer will be responsible for developing and deploying software for web-based systems that support biomedical and patient-oriented research, and that advance the state of the art in biomedical informatics at UCLA. Reporting to the Lead Applications Programmer of the Biomedical Informatics Program of the UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), the Software Engineer will maintain and extend previously developed open source software and deploy new applications to support the UCLA research enterprise. Current applications include a clinical data repository system, an online survey collection platform, and a data quality dashboard.


Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science or related area. Strong programming skills in Java and/or Python, JavaScript. Strong grasp of automation tools and ability to write scripts in Linux. Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and tools. Experience with systems, networking and IT operations. Strong Data skills, especially Data Modelling and Visualization.

Experience working in a healthcare or scientific research setting. Experience working with database applications - Oracle, MySQL. Expert knowledge of the software development lifecycle for Java-based systems. Experience with Data Visualization libraries like D3.js. Experience with Amazon AWS and other cloud-based platforms.
