The purpose of the internship is to provide the student with supervised practice in the office in the application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in construction. Intern will provide support to the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) staff through assisting with 3D modeling, tracking, and communication tasks.

Reports to: VDC Project Manager, VDC Manager

Essential Duties & Responsibilities*:

Assist in obtaining information for production of models and communication materials related to BIM

Assist the VDC staff in the production of 3D models from 2D documentation to support the following types of efforts (including but not limited to):

Massing models

Exterior building models.

Site work models

Assist the VDC staff in graphics and data related communication tasks (including but not

limited to):

Information Gathering

Layout of documentation Progress tracking

Weekly progress update meetings

Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.

* Qualifications: Working towards a degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, graphic

design, urban planning, or related field. Good verbal and written communication skills, strong organization skills with attention to detail. Should be interested in BIM (from architectural graphics perspective) as a key component of learning experience.

Should be proficient with computer applications as required to perform responsibilities.

Should specifically be familiar with BIM based computer applications such as Navisworks Manage, Trimble SketchUp, Autodesk Revit, as well as graphics applications such as the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Adobe Illustrator and/or Adobe InDesign.

Physical Demands: Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and

temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
