Job Description

The Department of Clinical Sciences is comprised of approximately 60 faculty, more than 60 residents and interns, postdoctoral scholars, research technicians, and administrative staff. Clinical Sciences faculty teach courses in the second and third years of the DVM program, conduct research, and provide clinical care while teaching in the Foster Hospital for Small Animals and the Large Animal Hospital. The department is also home to the Clinical Trials Office, the Accelerated Clinical Excellence and Shelter Medicine programs, Tufts at Tch Community Veterinary Clinic, and the Residents Enhanced Veterinary Education and Academic Learning (REVEAL) program. Several faculty members contribute to programs offered by the Center for Animals and Public Policy (CAPP).

The ZCAM Clinician will provide care to companion pet exotic animals including avian, small mammal, and reptile/amphibian species. Zoological species are seen from local zoos and aquaria. Excellence in patient care, teaching of students, and clinical research are priorities for the service. Student rounds in the Foster Hospital for Small Animals in North Grafton, MA are conducted daily, and grades are to be submitted promptly at the end of the rotation. The selected candidate will provide clinical service on alternating weeks, oversight of the ZCAM intern, an integral role in ZCAM-related training of clinicians in the Emergency and Critical Care service (including CE), support of surgery/procedure days when the Associate Professor is on clinics, clinical coverage when the intern is out of the clinic, weekend care of inpatient ZCAM cases on a rotating basis with the ZCAM intern, on-call phone support to ER during weeks of clinical service including alternating weekend, attendance at the Avian and Zoological Medicine Journal Club which meets weekly, didactic training in the form of clinical instruction and lectures to students, house officers, and staff and help coordinate the exotics advanced exotic elective course during spring 2020.

Basic Requirements:

DVM degree or equivalent. Completion of an exotic species focused internship or residency program. MA veterinary license must be obtained prior to employment.

Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. with or without accommodation.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:

This position requires working evenings and weekends, with 7 weeks/year of daytime rotations.
