Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY Orthotic or Prosthetic care may include, but is not limited to, patient evaluation, orthosis or prosthetist design, fabrication, fitting and modification of orthotic or prosthetic devices to treat neuro-musculoskeletal disorders or acquired conditions. The Certified Orthotist Assistant may also provide prosthetic, pedorthic (shoe) and/or mastectomy care as allowed by their own certification or under the indirect supervision and privileging of other certified staff as allowed by the ABC privileging process. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Licenses and Certifications Required Current certification as a Certified Orthotist Assistant by the American Board for Certification (ABC) or completion of the certification within 8 weeks of hire. Preference will be given to dual certified Orthotist-Prosthetist Assistant, but this is not a requirement. Valid ND Driver#s License. Educational Requirements An equivalent combination of education and experience to meet board certification as a Certified Orthotist Assistant. [Successful completion of 3 semester hours in Human Anatomy, General/Fundamental Physics, and Medical Terminology]. Experience Requirements An equivalent combination of education and experience to meet board certification as as a Certified Orthotist Assistant. For certification, a minimum of 1900 under the supervision of either a Certified Prosthetist or Certified Orthotist. Dual discipline, 18 months clinical experience in both orthotics and prosthetics with a minimum of 6 months experience in each discipline. 1 year experience delivering mastectomy or prosthetic, pedorthic or mastectomy#care preferred. Qualifies to be privileged under ABC guidelines to deliver prosthetic, orthotic, and/or mastectomy care. Special Skills or Training Requirements Demonstrate ability to effectively fit and deliver custom and non-custom orthotic and prosthetic devices. Thorough understanding of medical terminology. Effective communication skills for accurate, concise and organized oral and written presentation and reports to patient and staff. Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on objectives of patient care services. Active listening, reading and comprehension skills for analyzing reports, charges and correspondence. Good interpersonal skills and ability to build professional relationships with physician, therapists and other staff. Ability to work effectively as a team member. Effective organizational, time management and planning skills.
