Job Description

Equipment: Unit-Dose Packager and Other Unit Dose Pre-Packaging Activities. - Uses equipment according to manufactures guidelines Pak-EDGE UD - Capable of utilizing the machine for the following: - Adding new medications to the packaging database - Demonstrates ability to enter appropriate information on compounded IV and printing - Troubleshooting failed mechanisms within the machine - Replacing packaging papers/materials when needed - Weekly cleaning of the packager - Willingness to learn/teach prepackaging of liquid medications, including labeling and prepackaging in syringes and cups. - Demonstrates accuracy in prepackaging and documentation of the prepackaging of medications. Orders supplies (ie. packaging material, Printer film.) - Utilizes safety precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) when operating equipment - Med Carousel - Refill/restock - Pull for Pyxis - Correcting count

Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager as well as the staff pharmacist, and according to the established procedures of the pharmacy department, the technician assists the pharmacists and other pharmacy personnel in all aspects of hospital pharmacy. This includes but is not limited to the preparation, dispensing and delivery of medications for inpatients and outpatients, performing related duties to maintain work flow such as charging medications, filling Pyxis™- Medstations, crediting and redistributing returns and assisting in the maintenance of inventory levels within the department. In addition to the above, the technician assists the pharmacists and other pharmacy personnel in the preparation, dispensing and delivery of parental solutions for inpatients and outpatients. The Technician will maintain the workflow in the IV room with activities such as delivering the IV's to the nursing units, recycling of IV products, processing IV returns and batching IV's and syringes as backup stock for new orders. The purpose is delivery of quality care commensurate with the age of the patient population for the said designated area. (ie. neonate through geriatrics).

* Demonstrates ability to add new drugs to Piker from First Data Bank.

* Familiar with trigger system.

The candidate must have a high school education or equivalent with experience in calculations and record keeping.

Students enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy are exempt from the requirement of Pharmacy Technician Certification, but must register as a Pharmacy Intern as soon as allowed by regulation.

* Must understand the medical terminology that is required to fill patient medications and prepare sterile products.
* Must be able to work effectively in an environment of high pressure and stress.
* Must be able to read and interpret the computerized patient profile screen.
* Five (5) years hospital pharmacy technician experience may be substituted for the certification.

Hospital experience necessary.

* Must have successfully completed the training program in aseptic technique, pharmaceutical calculations, and all other relevant areas pertaining to the preparation and distribution of parenteral solutions and pass the departmental exam within one year of hire.
* Is qualified to assist the pharmacists in the preparation of controlled substances for distribution to stock or Pyxis™- Medstations, after training.
* Must be capable of understanding directions and willing to carry out procedures and instructions as part of on the job training..
* CPhT or enrollment in an accredited school of pharmacy is required.

The successful candidate will work evening shift 3 pm - 11:30 pm Monday - Friday. Weekend rotation may be needed to meet patient care needs.
