Job Description

JOB SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Nursing Assistant collects and reports patient information and data as directed, such as vital signs and specimens. The Nursing Assistant helps patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, diet, fluid intake, elimination, dressing, positioning, transfers, mobility, and ambulation. Performs selected tasks, such as patient transport, discharge and assists with patient needs. Distributes linen and supplies to designated areas. Assists with delivery of snacks to patients as directed. Under the direction of the nurse, removes hep-lock post procedure. As assigned, stays with at-risk patients to monitor safety. The Nursing Assistant provides care according to hospital procedures in a manner that protects the safety and dignity of patients. Cleans endoscopes based on manufacture guidelines. Partial access to medications is given to the incumbent of this position because they are required by their job responsibilities to transport or stock medications to approved medication storage locations


Education: High School Diploma. Graduate of a Connecticut-approved Nurse Aide Training Program. AHA Heart saver CPR required; Connecticut Nurse Aide Registry certification required. GI scope certification preferred. GI Scope reprocessing certificate required after 12 months of full time reprocessing flexible Endoscopes.

Experience: Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant in an acute care setting preferred.

Skills: Ability to read, write, speak English, and do simple math problems required. Previous experience using a personal computer highly desirable.
