Job Description

Madison BCycle, the bike share serving Madison, Wi, is looking for an energetic and driven intern to join a fast-paced, fun, and hardworking team for the Spring/Summer 2019 season. A successful Madison BCycle Business Intern will be a self-starter who reports to the Executive Director and plays a key role in identifying new business opportunities, developing solutions, and engaging current and potential BCycle members through social media and marketing channels. This position will offer opportunity for ownership and growth in several key areas of business, including:

* Data Analytics: Analyze marketing and operational data to uncover opportunities to impact our business
* Marketing: Own the process of developing and maintaining organizational brand identity through email marketing, social media, and website management
* Operations: Support the Program Manager with office operations, including budgeting and organization/analysis of historical program information
* Business Development: Assist the Program Manager with new partner development, including identifying area businesses, developing pitches, and meeting with members of the business community.

This is a paid, 15-20 hours per week position. Working remotely will be considered. Also, opportunity exists to begin internship during Spring semester, working up to 10 hours/week.

Preferred qualifications:

* Business or Strategic Communications major
* Familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
* Familiarity with social and digital marketing concepts and tools
* Positive attitude and a sense of humor
* Interest in making a positive impact in Madison community

Internship may qualify for academic credit; applicants are responsible for ensuring completion of all necessary qualifying requirements, and documentation by their college or university.

About Trek Bicycle Corp

Trek has created a interesting and well-written history entitled "A Trek through Time - The History of Trek Bicycles". It appeared on the Trek Dealer website in February of 2002. The five page article, in PDF format, is here . An interesting presentation of the business history of Trek was made by Richard A. Burke, Chairman and CEO of Trek, in October of 2000. It is available here as a streaming video . The presentation was made as part of "Profiles of American Enterprise" at the University of Colorado. Trek's Richard Burke was interviewed by Leigh Buchanan of Inc.com. Her article, "Trek's Burke: How I did it" , dated August 2006, appeared on Reuters.com. Our thanks to Reuters for permission to reproduce the article . The Museum of Mountain Bike Art & Technology offers an excellent history of Trek and the mountain bikes it produced. Mr. Richard Burke died in 2008. His son, John Burke, is now CEO of the company.
