Job Summary

Travelers has a challenging opportunity for a technology leader with broad architecture experience and a specialization in mainframe technology to join a talented architecture team in Claim IT. The leader will define and drive a mainframe modernization roadmap to simplify the technology environment and optimize the architecture and infrastructure for a large IMS, CICS and DB2 transactional system of record. This hands on role will architect end-to-end solutions for complex projects across distributed, host and business intelligence environments which advance the technology roadmap one project at a time. The architect works in conjunction with the architecture community to ensure alignment with architecture roadmaps, reference architecture and standards through a common assurance process. This position is available at either our Hartford, CT or St. Paul, MN locations.



Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

- Drive architecture roadmap, reference architecture and standard efforts

- Provide leadership in all technical aspects of assigned projects, programs and portfolios

- Architect complex end-to-end solutions across distributed, host and business intelligence environments

- Develop solution architecture viewpoints as appropriate for the SDLC phase for business and technical audiences

- Define pros and cons of solution options to arrive consensus around architecture decisions

- Leverage defined roadmap, reference architecture and standards for Claim IT and the Enterprise

- Lead proof of concept efforts for candidate architectures

- Participate in the architecture assurance process including leading peer reviews



Education, Work Experience & Knowledge- Bachelor or Masters degree in the field of computer science or similar technical area
- 15 years professional experience in a business facing or information technology facing role
- Expert knowledge and proven development experience with IMS DB/DC, CICS and DB2 systems. Familiarity with .NET distributed systems and business intelligence are a plus
- Insurance domain knowledge a plus
- Experience in creating architecture roadmap and reference architecture spanning application, information and infrastructure layers for highly available mainframe systems which are part of diverse multi-technology enterprise-wide business solutions
- Excellent facilitation, discovery, analysis, and prototyping skills
- Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communications skills including the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of people
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and must be able to manage multiple requests at the same time
- High enthusiasm, self-starting, ability to work with minimal direct supervision, takes ownership
- Strong team player, ability to lead peers in accomplishment of common goals
