Summary

 

Level 2 Civil Engineer position involved in the application of engineering fundamentals on traffic engineering design and study projects for a variety of clients, particularly states and municipalities. 

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • Registered as an Engineering-in-Training required; Registration as a Professional Engineer preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Word; and various engineering software design systems, such as MicroStation/GeoPak; AutoCAD; and In Roads

     

     Preferred Qualifications:  

  • 5+ years’ experience with emphasis on traffic engineering design and study projects.
  • 3.0 GPA minimum
  • Experience with the MUTCD, traffic engineering design, traffic impact studies, safety studies, and technical report writing is preferred.
  • Experience working on KDOT or MoDOT traffic design projects is also preferred.

      

    General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Receives instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.
  2. Prepares plans, specifications, quantities and cost estimates for the design of traffic engineering components of projects (including but not limited to, signing and pavement markings, traffic signals, signal systems, signal interconnect, roadway lighting, ITS, construction sequencing and work zone traffic control).
  3. Conducts field work for the collection of traffic data, such as traffic counts, vehicle spot speeds, sight distances, delay studies, gap studies, etc.
  4. Intersection geometric design.
  5. Traffic safety studies, traffic impact studies, and small-scale planning studies.
  6. The individual may be called on to assist other divisions.
  7. Microstation, Geopak, and other design software will be used, and all work will be in collaboration with other engineers, technicians, planners, and surveyors.
  8. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  9. Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals.

  • The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. Airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc).
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Travel requirements:  Up to 10%
