The Kansas City or St. Louis office seeks an experienced transportation engineer who is looking for a challenging opportunity to join our growing team of dynamic roadway, highway, traffic, bridge, railroad and environmental specialists as a roadway/highway or traffic engineer. The successful engineer will be joining our Transportation Engineering Division and will be an important member of our team.  Opportunities are available in planning, studies, report writing, design and plan preparation, specifications, cost estimates, and other related disciplines. The person will receive training and experience in preliminary engineering and/or development of detailed construction plans on some of the most complex and exciting transportation projects in the Midwest. The individual may also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary and multi-modal projects.  The engineer will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a unique, fun and dynamic work environment.

The candidate will work closely with other engineers, scientists, planners and technicians in an integrated team environment to achieve completion of projects. Microstation, Geopak, MS Office and other transportation design software will be used. Familiarity with these software packages is beneficial. 

 

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following.  Other opportunities may also be available.

  1. Analyzes information and data to perform standard design tasks.
  2. Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and occasionally represents the organization in meetings to resolve important questions, and to plan and coordinate work.
  3. Receives instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.
  4. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
  5. Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  6. Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineer.
  7. Keeps Senior Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
  8. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Education/Experience – Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required with 4+ years of design experience preferred.

 

Computer Skills - Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and various engineering software systems depending on engineering discipline: MicroStation/GeoPak preferred.

 

Certificates and Licenses – Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer or able to attain within one year. A PTOE certification is a plus.

 

Work Environment - The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions, depending on field assignments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. Airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc).
