TranSystems is seeking one candidate for part-time work as a Field Survey Technician in Norcross, GA.

Summary: Assist in performing general surveying by the following duties.

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Holds level or Prism Pole with prism at designated points to assist in determining elevations, gathering general topographic features and laying out stakes for topographic maps, construction layout, mining, land, and other types of surveys.
  2. Calls out reading or writes station number and reading in field notes and on field stakes.
  3. Marks points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark.
  4. Measures distance between survey points with steel surveyor’s chain or cloth tape.
  5. Marks measuring points with keel (marking crayon), paint sticks, scratches, tacks, or stakes.
  6. Places stakes and monuments at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation.
  7. Cuts and clears brush and trees from line of sight during general survey operations.
  8. Performs maintenance of general daily used survey equipment and maintains supplies for survey crew.
  9. Ability to memorize up to 200 point codes and control codes.
  10. Begin to understand the operation of the survey instrumentation and data collection processes.
  11. Understanding of how field and office CADD software will analyze field gathered input.
  12. Ability to enter storm pipes and inlets; use tools such as shovels, sledgehammer, pick, cutting tools, post drivers, and power tools.

    Education/Experience – Prior experience or training helpful. This is an Entry level position with 0 – 3 years of surveying background.

     

    Language Ability - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to immediate supervisor and other employees of the organization. Handwriting skills need to legible and neat in appearance for field notes.

     

    Math Ability – Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

     

    Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

     

    Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word software and Internet software

     

    Certificates and Licenses – None required, but Level 1 Certified Survey Technician Certification recommended.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand.  The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and drive a motor vehicle.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus of survey instrumentation.
