Summary

 

The TranSystems southern California offices are requesting resumes for Highway Inspection, Bridge Inspection, and Office Engineering positions to establish our 2017 job pool.  Positions may be for projects managed by TranSytems or by our clients under staff augmentation (on-call) contracts.   Locations include Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties.  Staff augmentation assignments may require a client interview and approval.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).  Degree in Civil Engineering preferred for inspection. 
  • Minimum 2 years Caltrans construction experience (Caltrans employee or consultant).  Minimum 5 years preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel, with good overall computer skills
  • Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal

 

General Duties & Responsibilities for inspection include the following.   Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Checks construction line-and-grade.
  2. Observes work in progress to ensure that procedures followed and materials used conform to specifications and other contract requirements.
  3. Prepares samples of construction materials for laboratory testing according to California Test Methods and/or AASHTO
  4. Interprets plans and specifications to respond to Contractor questions.
  5. Records quantities of materials received or used during specified periods.  Develops Quantity Calculations Sheets for monthly progress payments to the Contractor.
  6. Maintains daily log of construction and inspection activities and photos.
  7. Maintain construction safety practices and protects the safety of the traveling public
  8. Can work independently with supervision or as a part of a team.
  9. Support project public outreach efforts, including response to the traveling public in the field.
  10. Positions may require flexibility with working hours and/or location.  Night shifts may be required depending upon the assignment.
  11. Specialty inspection experience desired for SWPPP, and electrical inspection.
  12. Desired bridge inspection skills include reviewing falsework (independent check of engineering calculations), prestressing calculations (elongations, etc.), and calculating grades using a 4-Scale (Deck Contour Sheet).

 

General Duties & Responsibilities for Office Engineer include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Maintain all project files.
  2. Assist in processing Contract Change Orders.
  3. Develop the monthly progress payment estimate from inspector’s quantity calculation sheets.
  4. Process Extra Work Bills (time and materials payments).  Caltrans projects will require use of the Caltrans electronic Extra Work Bill system.
  5. Perform administrative support as required (office supplies, phone answering, etc.)
  6. Assist with labor compliance monitoring (checking certified payrolls)
