General Information

The Pipeline Technician applies pipeline operations and maintenance skills and aptitude to operate, repair, install, troubleshoot, and perform planned maintenance and corrective tasks on natural gas pipelines and equipment such as pipelines, valves, valve actuators, tubing and fittings, pig traps, rectifiers.  Perform line locate, supervise foreign line crossings, gas handling, active control, and excavation coordination. Operates and maintains assigned equipment in a manner to meet operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.  Maintains core operational task qualifications and will be required to perform tasks from other disciplines.



  • Respond to One-Call tickets, locate, and mark pipeline and Right-of-Ways;
  • Monitor cathodic protection rectifiers;
  • Perform valve inspections and maintenance;
  • Perform integrity surveys;
  • Identify and monitor encroachment issues;
  • Develop positive relationship with landowners along pipeline Right-of-Way;
  • Install and operate air movers during pipeline maintenance activities;
  • Maintain and install pipeline and aerial markers;
  • Maintain Right of Way per TransCanada policies and procedures;
  • Perform excavation coordinator duties;
  • Supervise, lead, and coordinate third party contractors;
  • Other tasks as required.


Qualifications and Education


  • High degree of respect for safe work habits;
  • Ability to develop an understanding of Company practices and procedures and apply them to a site specific procedure;
  • Demonstrated concern for people, utilizing effective interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as acting independently in the execution of pipeline maintenance;
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate powered tools such as drills, grinders, torches, etc;
  • Ability to perform physically demanding mechanical duties as required;
  • Strong planning and organization skills;
  • High level of initiative, with the willingness to develop new skills;
  • Computer literacy (Windows, Word, other) would be an asset.



  • Minimum education of a high school diploma or GED;
  • Two years working in a mechanical related environment is preferred;
  • Pipeline industry experience would be an asset.


* This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license;
  • Provide a driver’s abstract for review;
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing;
  • Position to be included in on-call rotation;
  • Extended workdays and/or workweeks may be required;
  • Subject to 24-hr/day callout at any time for emergency response;
  • Able to travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, and training involving some overnight stays away from home.
