Foreman, Drilling and Blasting

 

Looking to expand your mining career?  Join the SunHills Mining team at the Highvale Mine, Canada’s largest surface strip coal mine managed and operated by SunHills Mining Limited partnership (LP), a TransAlta entity.  The Highvale Mine is located about 80 km west of Edmonton near Lake Wabamun and fuels three coal-fired plants operated by TransAlta.

 

SunHills Mining LP is currently seeking Foreman, Drilling and Blasting positions. We are seeking proactive, well-organized, individuals who will provide supervisory leadership of operational staff for the Drilling and Blasting team at Highvale Mine. Key focus is on utilizing continuous improvement in the implementation of best in class work planning, scheduling and completion, while maintaining regulatory and legal requirements in accordance with drilling and blasting specifications.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include a wide range of activities including, but not limited to:

·         Provide leadership to operations and maintenance staff

·         Lead routine and special project work  

·         Provide appropriate coaching and constructive feedback and supporting direct reports in using judgement and initiative in completing work.

·         Schedule work to an attainable 2-3 week running schedule

·         Produce 1-3 month deliverables in alignment with the manager’s business plan. This includes delivering agreed results.

·         Group work to help minimize conflicts between different job deliverables

·         Facilitate routine daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings

·         Establish relationships with buyers and suppliers for equipment parts delivery

·         Communicate with the warehouse for parts and supplies

·         Manage the process of work orders

·         Identify PM’s and equipment opportunities

·         Creating job plans that minimize impacts to operational needs

·         Manage priorities to balance long and short term goals.

·         Ensure all work is performed safely and within TransAlta’s policies, procedures, standards and collective agreements

 

Qualifications:

·         Specialized expertise in Drilling & Blasting

·         Understand and apply the policies, procedures and the collective bargaining agreement

·         Recognized trades certificate or technical diploma is preferred

·         Basic mine operational knowledge

·         Specific detailed knowledge of maintenance practices & standards

·         Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications

  •    Detailed knowledge of the work management process.
  •    Capable of leading a project team engaged in the resolution of complex issues and/or providing subject matter guidance related to area of specialization to project team members
  •    Capable of identifying and solving problems that arise with little or no precedent

·        Collaboration skills working with peers and cross functional teams
