Job Description


The Town of Schaghticoke is looking to fill the position of Town Clerk. The applicant must be a resident of the Town of Schaghticoke and the age requirement is 18 yrs. or older. This position is 35 hr. week with a salary of $35,000 or above. The most important qualification is a desire to serve the public. The office of town clerk involves a great variety of different duties and responsibilities. Mainly, the town clerk has custody of all the records, books and papers of the town. The town clerk is designated by state law as the town records management officer which requires coordination of the town’s records management program. The town clerk must attend all meetings of the town board, act as clerk thereof, and keep a complete and accurate recorded of the proceedings of each meeting. The town clerk must maintain an Ordinance Book, record all local laws filed in the clerk’s office and index them. The town clerk is the filing officer of the town and is responsible for posting all legal notices of the town. Detailed responsibilities are contained mainly in Town Law 30.
