Description

Under direct supervision, assists in the identification and documentation of water utility infrastructure information used in the ongoing development and maintenance of a Geographic Information System (GIS) database. This position will assist the Utility Services Division, other departments, engineers, and inspectors in managing and obtaining information on the Town's infrastructure.

Examples of Duties

WORK ACTIVITIES:

* Assists in the management of water utility infrastructure record drawing database.
* Updates an existing GIS database using record drawing information from completed land development and capital improvement projects.
* Works closely with the Town's GIS Division and Utility Services crews to update the location of new and existing water utility infrastructure using GIS applications and tools approved by both divisions.
* Assists Utility Services in archiving and retrieving infrastructure information.
* Assists private sector engineers and developers in obtaining information on existing Town infrastructure.
* Assists in the development of water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer maps.
* Assist members of the public in obtaining information on existing Town infrastructure and with other general engineering information.
* Performs various administrative and technical support duties to include conducting research and surveys, assembling information, compiling and analyzing statistical data; preparing various reports; and other special projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager or designee.
* Operates various types of office and field equipment to include computers, construction level, smart level, GPS equipment, etc.
* Adheres to personnel, departmental, and safety policies and procedures.
* Informs supervisor of all work activities.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

* A High School Diploma, and working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geospatial Information Sciences, or a related field is required.
* Must have a solid working knowledge of Windows based computers and must have experience with Microsoft Office programs.
* Must have a valid Texas driver's license and driving record in compliance with Town policy.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

* GIS software (ArcGIS) and CAD experience is preferred.

Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history).

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

* Must have a good knowledge of the principles and concepts pertaining to basic civil engineering and/or geographic information systems; good analytical, quantitative, communicative, and public relations skills.
* Must be able to read and understand basic engineering plans; function under general direction, and to work independently.
* Must have excellent English verbal and written communication skills to include spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
* Must be able to follow verbal and written instruction; walk, bend, stoop, reach, climb, see, hear, talk, read, and write; work effectively and efficiently with the general public, Town Council, public officials, and employees; maintain a pleasant personality at all times; and work independently in absence of specific instructions with little or no supervision; work well under pressure and stress; handle multiple tasks; prioritize and organize work assignments; and maintain confidentiality of confidential matters.
* May work extensive hours.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

* May be subjected to uneven and/or muddy terrain, noise, and chemical exposure, and adverse weather conditions.
