This position exists to provide technical leadership and management in the areas of thermal treatment. The position will ensure that the appropriate core competencies are maintained and developed to provide the necessary support to BU's in maintenance of current products, development of new products as well as staying abreast of new technologies that could impact the business or present future opportunities.

 

  1. This person will be responsible for: - supervising and managing members of Heat Treatment Group ensuring that the tactics undertaken by this group are in alignment with the published Thermal treatment strategy and supported by the business units and/or technology leadership - driving project rigor, adherence to project plans, creation of appropriate metrics and other tools to characterize the overall ROI for this group.
  2. Functioning as the primary contact for the business groups for heat treatment technologies; - managing and leading development efforts for advanced heat treatment technologies for existing and novel metallic materials; - leading efforts to develop a fundamental understanding of the relationship between heat treat processing and resultant distortion,  providing heat treat and physical metallurgy support for existing and new products; - developing heat treat processes for thin section parts that result in minimal distortion; - maintaining awareness of external technology developments and justifying their investigation as appropriate.
  3. Lead procurement of HT lab assets for Bainitic / Marquench/ Vacuum carb. Process.
  4. Lead a team to demonstrate the effectiveness of scan induction hardening in heat treating large diameter bearings for wind turbine applications.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Material Science, Metallurgical Engineering or related.  Preferred Bachelors or Masters degree in Material Science, Metallurgical Engineering or related field with 10-15 years experience in processing and/or thermal treatment
