Job Description


The Manager of Benefits is responsible for the strategy, research, design, communication and overall management of the company's benefits programs (401K, health care, unemployment, life and disability). Responsible for recommending new or enhancing existing programs based on the company's objectives, philosophies and best practices. The Manager will be responsible for assuring competitiveness of the company's benefits programs and systems through strategic monitoring of business conditions, legal requirements, economic conditions and competitive practices within a business environment.



* Responsible for the oversight and administration of employee benefits.
* Surveys industry and/or community to determine company's competitive position.
* Develops, recommends and implements new or modified plans and employee benefit policies.
* Develops cost controls to assure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to company and employee.
* Oversees a team of administrators responsible for the administration of employee benefit programs such as major medical plans, term life insurance plans, temporary disability plans, accidental death policies, workers' compensation and leave of absence.
* Oversees Employee Social Squad and the planning and execution of employee events and giving initiatives.
* Evaluates and compares existing company benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information.
* Develops specifications for new plans or modifies existing plans to maintain company's competitive position in labor market.
* Develops company cost information for new plans and makes recommendations to management concerning sharing of cost between employer and employee.
* Advises and counsels management and employees on existing benefits.
* Prepares and executes, with legal consultation, benefit documentation such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements and insurance policies.
* Instructs insurance carriers, trustees and other administrative agencies outside the company to effect changes in benefit programs.
* Assures company compliance with provisions such as ERISA, HIPPA and COBRA.
* Develops benefit information, statistical and census data for actuaries, insurance carriers and management.
* Oversees process and handling of benefit inquires and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution.
* Manages unemployment and disability. Coordinates coverage and acts as a liaison with state disability and unemployment.
* Directs administration of retirement benefit plans.
* Analyze plan investment choices, provisions and market competitiveness.
* Ensure compliance with IRS, ERISA, DOL and other federal and state agencies.
* Ensure appropriate semi-annual and annual non-discrimination testing takes place.
* Conduct evaluations of services, coverage and options available through plan administrator and brokers, and make recommendations to change and/or enhance plans as needed.


* Minimum 5 years experience in Human Resources Benefits required.
* Experience working in a similar role with units in multiple-states.
* Sound knowledge of regulations government and employment related issues including state and federal requirements.
* Must have advanced knowledge of ERISA, HIPAA, PDL, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, 401K and other related regulations.
* Experience administering both HMO and PPO health plans;.
* Strong market research and negotiation experience.
* Experience in managing company wide communication and team supervision skills.
* Knowledgeable with ADP Vantage a plus.
* Excellent organizational skills.


* Bachelor's degree or equivalent with an emphasis in Human Resources


* Proficient in English
* Excellent written and oral communication/presentation skills in order to effectively provide advice and counsel to senior executives and outside directors.
* Ability to qualitatively and quantitatively lay out business issues for presentation purposes.
* Ability to express ideas clearly and succinctly in letters, memos and reports.


* PHR/SHRM-CP/CEBS preferred


* Strong oral and written communication skills.
* Strong mathematical/statistical analysis required.
* Strong analytical skills as well as independent thinking/reasoning ability.
* Insight and the ability to effectively influence others as well as champion and implement ideas.
* A sense of urgency and willingness to make tough decisions.
* Highly organized, an independent thinker and confident leader.
* Possess a strong value system with great integrity and demonstrate personal and professional leadership.
* Ability to conduct self in a positive and professional manner, adhering to company policy and practices.
* Proficient in Excel and Microsoft word.
