Job Description

Social Worker

General Purpose Of Job:

The purpose of this position is to assist patients/families with personal and environmental difficulties, which are aggravated by an illness. The main responsibility of this employee is to help patients/families through individual or group sessions, to deal effectively with emotional, social or financial problems that often accompany an illness. The incumbent is responsible for making an accurate assessment of the patient’s situation so that long and short-range goals may be identified with input from the patient/family. This individual will also be responsible for participating with performance improvement processes and data collection and forwarding monthly statistics to secretary for completion of report. This employee will also be required to carry a pager and provide coverage after hours and on weekends on a rotating basis.

Qualification Requirements:

Licensure: Individual must be licensed to practice Social Work in the State of West Virginia.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor of Social Work required. Preference will be given to individuals with prior hospital experience.

Communication Skills: Individual must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to listen effectively and interpret patient/family needs and communicate options.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or schedule form.

Computer/Typing/Mathematical Skills: Basic computer skills required.

Visual Acuity, Hearing Acuity And Manual Dexterity:

Individual will be frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear for extended periods of time. Employee may be required to lift up to ten pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

Work Environment:

Employee will be exposed to moderate noise. Employee may be required to work in areas where fumes or airborne particles exist.
