Job Description

Job Summary:

Disney Streaming Services is a business unit within The Walt Disney Company’s Direct-to-Consumer and International (DTCI) segment that oversees all consumer-facing digital video subscription services across the company. Disney Streaming is responsible for developing and operating The Walt Disney Company’s direct-to-consumer video businesses globally, including the ESPN+ premium sports streaming service, programmed in conjunction with ESPN; the upcoming Disney SVOD service; and BAMTECH Media, a global leader in direct-to-consumer video streaming products and solutions. Its core mission is to deliver global audiences the freedom to access content on their terms across any connected device, time or location.

As an intern on the team, you will help us push the boundaries of what is possible on some of the most interesting 10-foot devices in the marketplace. You'll work on a team of other client developers alongside systems, services engineers, and project managers. We’re looking for someone who is interested and has a passion with various technologies and appreciates the details that make the development lifecycle exceptional, and demonstrates enthusiasm for new technologies, languages, frameworks, and platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on a modern stack consisting of JAVA and/or JavaScript (ECMAScript 5 and 6) and React.js across a wide range of devices from low memory and low performance to top of the line smart TVs.
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of application development: from requirements gathering and designing, to building, testing, and maintaining our software.
  • Work closely with dedicated product managers, designers, QA, and business owners to deliver excellent products on tight timelines
  • Collaborate closely with other engineers on research and development initiatives and production client applications.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates should have:
  • Technical skills including familiarity to numerous forms of Software Development approaches; Languages (SQL, C#, Java, HTML, CSS) and styles (Application, Database, Services)
  • Object Oriented Analysis and Design.
  • Java/J2EE , AngularJS and/or Node.js development experience required.
  • An understanding of Agile development practices.
  • Interest working with a variety of different devices ranging from Smart TV’s such as
  • Samsung Orsay and Tizen, LG Netcast and WebOS, Sony, Panasonic, TiVo, Vizio, and various set-top boxes or blu-ray players.

Preferred Qualifications:

The following experience would be a plus:
  • Experience with electronics engineering and hardware/software integration
  • Scala experience a plus.
  • Interest or experience in JavaScript (ES6) app development
  • Interest working with a variety of different devices ranging from Smart TV’s such as Samsung Orsay and Tizen, LG Netcast and WebOS, Sony, Panasonic, TiVo, Vizio, and various set-top boxes or blu-ray players.

Required Education

Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class, or be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months at time of application, or be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program.

Additional Information:

Internship Eligibility:
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney
Professional Internship:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must provide full work availability during Program Length (listed below)
  • Must provide own transportation to/from work
  • Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)

Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are June 10– August 16, 2019

Ability to provide own relocation, housing and transportation. Position is located in New York.

Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.
