Vanguard, one of the world's largest investment management companies is seeking an Emerging Market Debt Portfolio Manager to join our Global Fixed Income Group. Vanguard is based on a simple but revolutionary idea-that a mutual fund company should be managed in the sole interest of its investors. To ensure that the interests of investors always come first, Vanguard is owned by the Vanguard funds, which in turn are owned by the investors. We're still the only company structured this way. Today, we state our mission broadly: To take a stand for all investors, to treat them fairly, and to give them the best chance for investment success.
Vanguard is looking for a portfolio manager to join our active emerging market and sovereign debt team. Vanguard employs a team approach in managing investments. The team is responsible for managing emerging market and government related positions across Vanguard's multi-sector and dedicated products. The team's philosophy revolves around a risk controlled approach with emphasis on active management, relative value, and country and security selection.
The Role: Vanguard's emerging market and sovereign debt team is a multi-disciplinary team that includes members from portfolio management, trading, strategy and research, economics, and risk and quantitative research. The role would be reporting to the lead EM and Sovereign PM. The PM would be part of the team and would be tasked with designing and implementing investment strategies across portfolios. The PM would also be expected to contribute to the wider investment dialogue in Vanguard's fixed income group.
The candidate: A strong candidate would have 5-10 years investment experience, ideally in the investment management industry. He or she would have a strong understanding of sovereign debt, including fundamental credit risk and relative value. Understanding of portfolio construction and risk management is a must. A candidate with trade execution experience would be preferred. Experience investing via credit default swaps, interest rate swaps, and other derivatives is strongly preferred. In addition to expertise in sovereign debt, preference will be given for candidates with local market experience, including emerging market rates and FX. Experience investing in EM corporates would be a plus.

* Excellent communications skills, be a team player, and share Vanguard's dedication to our clients
* Demonstrated ability to in applying portfolio management concepts to the actual portfolio process
