Job Description

POSITION INFORMATION: Provides assistance to a research staff by conducting simple research experiments, collecting data and samples, keeping records, conducting literature searches, analyzing data, and preparing reports. Also responsible for the daily activities of the Andrology/Endocrinology laboratory and in participation in total quality management of the labs.


1. Technical Research. Conducts simple research and laboratory analysis to include but not limited to measure and

weigh compounds and solutions, isolate, identify and prepare specimens, and collect samples and other research data.

2. Clinical Research. Assist in simple clinical research projects collecting data from patients and/or participates in a

study or project.

3. Data Collection. Collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects, which could include

database information and/or hard files. Also assists physicians from the Dept of Urology in collection of sperm from EEJ, MESA and TESE specimens

4. Data Analysis. Conducts analyses of data. Interprets, draws conclusions, and discusses with principal investigator.

5. Record Keeping. Keeps detailed logs of all research related activities. Logs in specimens and maintains Andrology and Endocrine laboratory databases.

6. Literature Research. Conducts literature searches.

7. Data Analysis. Conducts data analyses, interprets results, summarizes findings, and presents to Principal

Investigator. Including but not limited to serum for hormone immunoassay (using auto-analyzer), semen analysis, including Kruger strict morphology and sperm cryopreservation, and preparation of sperm for IUI and donor insemination.

8. Report Preparation. Prepares various reports containing descriptive, analytical and evaluative content that may be

submitted for publication.

9. Material Presentation. Presents research material to fellow researchers, etc.

Other. Performs various duties as they relate to Andrology/Endocrinology aspects of the laboratory, including new method development and quality management.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree in a biological science, chemistry, physics, psychology, sociology, medical terminology or other health related field.

Required Education: Will accept 48 months of equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, or an Associate's degree plus 24 months research experience; OR non-science bachelor's degree with a minimum of 24 hours of college-level course work in the sciences to include 12 hours of chemistry (inorganic and organic) and 12 hours of course work in the biological sciences; OR have earned an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from accredited institution.

Experience: 12 months experience as a research assistant. Prior training and experience performing endocrine and andrology testing preferred. Experience using Excel and Word, knowledge in the use of Access. Weekend work rotation is required.
