Job Description

The Office of Technology Development is seeking a Technology Development Associate to assist in the advancement of OU's growing portfolio of Intellectual Property related to electronics applications. The University of Oklahoma conducts a significant amount of research in the field of weather related advanced hardware applications including radar systems, antenna designs and signal processing, all of which represent a strategic growth sector for the University. Additionally, OU supports strong IP positions in the fields of advanced sensor designs, novel material growth for electronic components, alternative batteries, and telecommunications hardware and protocols. This position will work closely with University inventors to understand and assess their technical research for potential commercial applications. The work will include the development of value propositions and market validation through customer discovery. Through this potential private industry partners will be identified and contacted with the goal of developing relationships for possible licensing and research support. The ideal candidate will have a back ground in product development with specific contacts or history working in related fields of meteorological sciences, sensor development, mid-IR laser development or related electrical engineering areas.

The Technology Development Associate will:

* Meet with members of the Faculty, Staff and Students of the University to discuss various Intellectual Property related matters
* Assess innovations created at the University for commercial potential
* Do Market Research and identification of needs and trends
* Identify and communicate with potential external partners
* Establish and negotiate commercial terms consistent with industry standards
* Make and support recommendations for protection of possible intellectual property factoring cost and potential for financial returns

Required Education: Bachelors in Electrical Engineering OR an equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:

* 24 months of experience in Translational Research or Prioritization in a related field


* Excellent verbal and written communication skills including moderate technical writing
* Ability to manage time and work on multiple projects simultaneously
* Proficient in Microsoft Office
* Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
* Understanding of engineering, atmospheric and scientific terms
* Ability to condense, interpret and distill disparate information into a cohesive understanding

Advertised Physical Requirements:

* Must be able to engage in repetitive motions and communicate

Department Preferences:

* Masters of Electrical Engineering or MBA
* 5 years of Industry Experience
* Background in Meteorological Sciences and/or Weather Radar Development
* Product Development
