Position Summary/Career Interest

The volunteer Football Sports Nutrition professional intern is a role which will seek to gain a concentrated educational experience in providing sport-specific nutrition support and services for a Power 5 Division 1 football program. This position will be responsible in assisting the Football Sport Dietitian with various performance nutrition services for the student-athlete, support in executing daily team nutrition operations, as well as effectively communicating with sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and football coaching staff regarding the student-athlete's performance and overall wellness.


* Participate in and complete the bi-weekly football performance nutrition education series in addition to attending performance staff meetings when applicable.
* Provide supervised nutrition counseling.
* Assist in managing football fueling station and nutrition lab. Duties will include, but are not limited to, overseeing inventory, stocking, and organizing all products.
* Assist in executing specific performance hydration and fueling nutrition protocols.
* Develop and design educational materials, present small group team talks according to needs.
* Assist Football Sports Dietitian in planning pre- and post-training meals as well as monitoring team meals.
* Assist in team body composition testing and analysis.
* Adhere to nutritional supplement use policies and procedures.
* Research and analyze scientific and lay reports related to nutrition and athletic performance, including nutritional supplements and diets, translating the findings into sound advice for student-athletes and respective staff.
* Perform any other additional duties as assigned by the Football Sports Dietitian or Director of Sports Nutrition.
* Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures.
* Maintain knowledge of health system, departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures.
* Foster cooperative relationships with fellow staff members within the department.
* Support the athletic department goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics and works to achieve and uphold the department's mission statement and core values.
* Exhibit professional decorum at all times.
* Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

* Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or closely related field.
* Background in sports nutrition and exercise physiology
* Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian eligible
