The Provident Bank is seeking an Assistant Controller to join us as a key member of our Finance team.

In this role, you will assist the Controller in directing the bank's accounting function on all matters relating to accounting principles, cost-benefit analysis, reporting, and internal controls.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Responsible for assisting the Controller with all accounting, internal auditing, budget, revenue, cost control procedures, and compilation of reports & statistics
* Maintain the financial reporting and general ledger in Prologue
* Prepare and review reconciliations to ensure accuracy
* Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
* Oversee daily functions of Accounts Payable Specialist and Accounting Associate
* Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
* Lead person on all financial statement audits
* Assist in analysis of financial statements- comparison of actual results to prior period
* Prepare SEC filings
* Gather data and address inquiries for external accounting audits
* Assist Controller on ad-hoc reporting and special projects
* Provide guidance to accounting staff on processes and procedures
* Help to build and manage a high performing team that maintains a strong client service focus
* Identify additional ways to be of service by ensuring timely exchange of information to promote client satisfaction
* Interface with a variety of outside organizations including vendors, legal counsel, external CPA, auditors, etc.


* Minimum 5 years of accounting experience
* At least 2 years of experience managing the general ledger and financial reporting functions
* Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
* CPA preferred
* Excellent time management & prioritization skills required
* Strong technical knowledge-advanced used of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, graphing, formulas), GAAP, accounting practices, and related procedures is required
* Excellent analytical, technical, and problem resolution skills with the ability to interpret financial reports
* Working knowledge of month end closing procedures and keeps abreast of industry trends and developments
* Ability to work in a fast paced environment, and must be adaptable to change
* Self-starter with the ability to produce quality results, meet all established goals, and objectives, and able to comply with all bank policies, procedures, regulations, and laws
* Communicates clearly, & effectively with customers, co-workers, supervisors and vendors
* Ability to effectively handle and maintain confidential matters and information
