Job Description

MITRE's INDOPACOM/NORAD&NORTHCOM/SPACECOM/STRATCOM Operations & Intelligence Department (P667) is looking for a motivated self-starter grad student intern with a strong background and experience in data analytics, data science, and or mathematics to assist the United States as it recapitalizes the national nuclear mission systems to ensure resilient operations in all conditions to include cyber-attack. The candidate will work directly with the United States Strategic Command and NC3 Enterprise Center as an FFRDC trusted technology advisor analyzing current and proposed capabilities, developing requirement and standards, and capability integration. The candidate will interface and partner with the larger MITRE and government/contractor teams supporting data/systems architecture communities (e.g., Joint Staff, HQ Air Force Global Strike Command, HQ Air Force, HQ Navy, DISA, other Combatant Commands) to enable modernization of the architecture.

Key Functions:

Research and explore applicability through prototyping and feasibility studies of open source and commercial technologies for application into future architectures.

Analyze current and future systems to propose an approach to achieving cyber situational awareness across the enterprise.

Work with MITRE and Government/UARC/Contractor teams to design processes that address:

* Methods for the nuclear mission community to identify key data and understand it's meaning
* Enterprise shared data access
* Development of methods to establish unified consistent views of data

Work in technical teams and collaboratively interact with HQ USSTRATCOM, contractor and other FFRDC partners.

This position is part of a diverse technical team of SMEs supporting a new government organization as it organizes and is established. Therefore, the selected candidate will directly impact warfighter missions and the advancement of the U.S. industry base for this mission.

Minimum Qualifications:

Eligible for obtaining and maintaining DoD-Secret level security clearance*

Completed BS degree and currently pursuing graduate level degree; Degrees should be majoring (BS, Masters and/or PhD) in software engineering, computer science, data science, mathematics, or other technical engineering disciplines with continued records of academic excellence including a 3.0 GPA or higher.


* Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current Secret level (or higher) clearance

Hands-on experience with software containers, model-based system engineering, data aggregations techniques, analytics, machine learning, data ingest/transformation.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well with STRATCOM, contractor, and other FFRDC personnel.

Experience leading or participating as a subject matter expert in a software development effort.
