Job Description:

As a member of the Education Programs and Productions team, the Assistant Manager of Dance Education is responsible for the oversight and management of the Education Division's Dance Education initiatives including all dance pre-professional training programs (Ballet Class Series, Contemporary Dance Series, Kennedy Center Dance Lab, etc.), introductory and recreational classes and workshops, and dance-related audience education and engagement programming (lectures, discussions, etc.), manages programmatic, logistical, administrative coordination, staffing, and support for dance programs serving all ages and skill levels.

Duties and Responsibilities:

70% Programming and Logistics

* Works with Director of Education Activation and Engagement and the Director of Education Programs and Productions to create and track the Dance Education strategic plan. Responsible for the research, development, and curation of Dance Education programming.
* Identifies and contracts artists, lecturers, moderators, instructors, and scholars to create and support Dance Education programming. In consultation with the Director of Education Activation and Engagement and the Dance Programming team, develops, curatems, plans, and programs the Dance Education season.
* Oversees the coordination of technical and logistical needs for all dance education programs including, but not limited to, Kennedy Center Dance Lab, Ballet Class series, Contemporary Dance Class series, Master Class series, dance lectures and discussions, dance-related Second Saturdays and other Dance Education initiatives. Prepares all required forms and paperwork. Prepares contracts, travel, and lodging arrangements for program presenters, personnel, and participants.
* Works with the Marketing & Sales department to set-up programs within the Kennedy Center ticketing and information systems.
* Serves as the Education Division representative on the interdepartmental, cross-functional team responsible for dance programming (Dance "pod").
* Manages the relationship between Dance Education and the Dance Programming and Production staffs.
* Serves as dance liaison to the School and Community Programs team and maintains comprehensive portfolio of dance education activities across the Education Division and the Center.
* Works with Research & Evaluation team to develop program evaluation strategy and design.
* Develops Dance Education digital content in collaboration with Digital Learning, Production, KC Digital, and Social Media teams, and other required personnel. Identifies and coordinates work with external contractors as needed.
* As onsite staff during Dance Education programs, Assistant Manager provides support for artists, presenters, and patrons; is a liaison for Production and House Management; supervises volunteers; ensures the smooth execution of the event and troubleshoots issues as they arise.

15% General Administrative and Marketing

* Organizes and maintains comprehensive files for all programs. Processes payment of all invoices and contracts associated with programs.
* Prepares and updates financial information and records including budgets and projections.
* Prepares correspondence for presenters, participants, artists, and the general public; Manages the writing, editing, and review of all program related materials.
* Prepares all online applications, surveys, and other forms. Collates program and participant data to support Research & Evaluation projects.

5% Staffing & Supervision

* Manages and oversees the selection, training, mentoring, and supervision of the Dance Education intern, and any seasonal/part-time staff, as needed.

5% Relationship Management

* Serves as Education Division's dance community liaison. Strategically and actively participates in local dance community programs and events. Serves as Center's dance education representative in key national organizations (i.e. DanceUSA, NDEO, IABD)

5% Other Projects and Programs

* Assists with special projects and programs related to the Programs and Productions team. Assists with office and departmental activities, conferences, events, projects, and programs, as needed.

N/A Responds to the needs and requests of Kennedy Center management and staff in a professional and expedient manner; Adheres to all employer policies and procedures.

Key Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a dance or dance education related field.
* At least 5 years of experience in program development, implementation, and administration within a performing arts organization.
* Knowledge of multiple dance techniques and styles (Ballet, Contemporary, Tap, Hip Hop. Etc.). Knowledge of approaches to dance education. Sustained, current understanding of artistic developments in the arenas of local, national, and international dance. Experience with a wide range of ages and skill levels. Working knowledge of production requirements for live events. Basic knowledge of digital educational technologies and various media platforms.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.).

Must be able to work quickly and efficiently while maintaining quality and accuracy. Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate in person and on the telephone. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel in order to operate computer keyboard, office equipment, and other essential tasks. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. This position infrequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

* Must be able to work extended hours including nights and weekends.
* Frequent interaction with the public.
* Lifting and moving of supplies and equipment for events.
* Travel up to 5% may be required.
* The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
